In 1983 it was disclosed that the Pakistani "arms makers" were really just a front covering for the weapons that were being fed to the Taliban by the USA to fight the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. That was when the Taliban was the enemy of our enemy and before they became just our enemy again.. We had to provide a "cover" for the millions of firearms being sent into the Mujaheddin (AKA Taliban). A lot of those were old British rifles (No.1 and No.4 Enfields) which the Pakastani "arms makers" were conveniently seen "making" by filing metal (the metal having been removed from actual firearms) held between their feet. The media, being perpetually ignorant of all things firearms related, bought it. Just as they are buying it now. The fact is that Pakistan is an arms bazaar fed by multiple foreign entities for multiple purposes. The "arms makers" are a false front. A "gun laundering" operation. Proof? Every country that CAN make viable firearms DOES make viable firearms and usually sells them in the US civilian market unless sanctioned. To suggest that Pakistan can make firearms for foreign fighters but not for their own government is risible. (Pakistan buys it's military arms from the USA, Belgium and Austria)
