  1. Most Americans have no idea what the gun control laws ARE. But they want more? They often "demand" laws which already exist. They are told their is a "gun show loophole". Of course they want it closed. But...THERE IS NO "gun show loophole" so a new law does not get passed, because there is already a law to cover that. Since 1993! The poll respondent's ignorance does not change the fact. A bunch of uninformed people expressing uninformed opinions is not how laws are made. Laws are made by people who know what the laws ARE and by people who have to get elected. Most Americans do not consider gun control to be a major factor in the vote. Gun owners DO. Most contested elections in the USA are decided by LESS than the number of NRA members (and certainly gun owners who are not NRA members but are still informed) in the district. Most legislators are in the best job they could ever hope to have. They are NOT going to throw away a 3 point victory by pushing for gun laws that will make no difference in crime, but will get them tossed out of the best job they ever had. Asking uninformed people to express opinions on a subject they have no knowledge of is STUPID and is the main reason we do not govern by polls.
