  1. With a low level of recoil and limited penetration, I can only surmise that huge bore is simply not building enough pressure to give adequate velocity. It would be interesting to chronograph those loads. Nearly 3 oz. of shot, 1420 gr., should produce brutal recoil, easily equal to any of your "elephant rifles". Only low velocity would change that.
