  1. Not really. I live in Florida. Trump carried Florida by a margin three times greater in 2020 than in 2016. Largely because he crushed it with Latinos and stole the Democrat's base right out from under their noses. We had that "3rd New York Senator" Bill Nelson for 18 years until 2018. We elected DeSantis in 2018. Democrats are losing even Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Current polls show if the 2022 election were today, DeSantis and Rubio would carry those "Democratic strongholds" These aren't lifelong Democrats retiring to Miami from New York, these are people FLEEING Democrat strongholds for freedom and lower taxes.

  3. Buy a concrete block home, get some window covers to protect your windows, add a whole house generator and never worry. The taxes and house payments you save will pay for it, with $$$ left over. Hurricanes are just something to prepare for. Not a major concern, they just aren't. Florida is the 3rd most populous state.

  4. There is NO personal income tax in Florida. There ARE Corporate taxes. If you are a self employed sole proprietor OR an LLC you will pay -0- income tax to the state of Florida. You are also exempt from unemployment and worker's comp fees for yourself but not for employees. (but if you choose that route you will not be eligible for unemployment compensation or workman's comp) If you incorporate and classify yourself as an "employee", you WILL have to pay Federal, state unemployment and workman's comp fees. In either case you will have to pay Federal self employment tax. The property tax IS low, much lower than many other places, maybe not as low as some. Keep in mind that for your own home you get nearly a 50% deduction on property tax for a "homestead exemption". My quoted tax for my home is $2,212/year but with a the Homestead exemption I pay $1340. Modern 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage, concrete block home. Property taxes are far more affected by counties, localities and school districts than by the state.
