There is a bi-partisan $1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure bill which has already passed the Senate by a wide margin and both parties voted for it. It would easily pass in the House. But this is a infrastructure bill; roads, bridges, airports, etc. Nothing for "progressives", just mostly basic maintenance of the country's property. SO...the Progressives (AOC and her gang and Pelosi) have held up the bill in the House demanding that their $3.5 Trillion "Social Spending" bill be passed in the Senate before they will consider the $1.2 Trillion bill. They want the Senate to pass the $3.5 Trillion bill FIRST. If they don't, they will have no "leverage". At least two Democrats in the Senate are opposed to the $3.5 Trillion bill right now. Democrats need ALL 50 Senators to pass the bill in the Senate. Biden and Pelosi have been telling the media that they have an "agreement" with Manchin. They don't. Manchin made that clear. Manchin just made that clear, and made it clear that holding up the other bill will not change his mind. IF they don't get their big spending bill now, they will never get it. They will not attempt to pass anything so controversial in an election year. They will likely lose control of the House and very possibly the Senate in next year's election.

@fsa5826 Not really. The conventional way to consider the cost of the bill is over a 10 year period. Whenever they say "this is a $10 billion spending bill", that means over period of 10 years. That is how the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) counts it. Manchin said he would consider something in the $1.5 Trillion range. (over 10 years) So...what the Democrats did was make some of their expensive programs (free child care for example) for only ONE year. As everyone knows, once this benefit is given, it is extremely difficult to repeal it. It would just be continued. From year to year if needed. The Democrats disingenuously used "accounting tricks" to make the bill look like $1.75 Trillion. It isn't. Manchin knows this. He mentions the "shell games, budget games" at 4:17 THAT's what he is talking about. Sort of like saying you will buy a car with a 10 year loan at $500/mo. and then saying, "Well, OK, how about a 1 year loan?" What happens after 1 year? Are you going to take away the free daycare and free college tuition? Are you going to take away the $300/mo. advanced child care tax credit? Be serious. In fact they cut nothing, just fudged the numbers. Manchin is no one's fool. He is READING the bill and sees the tricks they are doing to get his vote. He isn't going to fall for it. Good for him! Remember, this is NOT about actually doing something for the country. This is about the Dems being able to say they "did something" They have already said "it is the biggest Social Bill since the New Deal" Really? 1 year of free daycare? 1 year of free preschool? 1 year of free Community College? This bill would better be titled the "Democrat Candidate Protection Plan" That's all it is.

@conniejopek2119 Too many skeletons in my closet for elected office. Some are still alive! 😏 I did work as a Senate immigration and law enforcement liaison for 6 years for both Republican and Democrat US Senators after retiring from a 36 year career in law enforcement. (Don't worry, I got much better at being retired now) 😁

@conniejopek2119 Thank you. It was the best career I could imagine! My father retired in Vilas County, WI. He loved it there. I have many great memories of fishing and hunting in the Northwoods with my father.

@sanddollar790 True. BUT if there was anything for the Progressives in the "Infrastructure Bill" they wouldn't be holding it hostage. There isn't. They are trying to FORCE the "Social Spending" bill by holding up the Infrastructure Bill. While the $1.2 Trillion "Infrastructure Bill" may not be all "infrastructure" (it isn't, Congressional bills are never so "clean") it definitely does not have the Progressives' wish list included.

Manchin is the only one telling the truth. The White House and Pelosi are lying.
