Trial starts Monday. The Judge has ruled that a lot of evidence implicating other people can be brought in, but not all. Why? Well, Sussman is charged with lying to the FBI that he wasn't working for anyone. The defense argues that who he was working for is irrelevant. How the information got to him or what the information was is irrelevant, per the defense. The judge has repeatedly said that the Sussman trial will not be a "mini-trial" for conspiracy. My feeling is that Sussman has provided Durham a roadmap of how to get to the conspiracy. Durham is following the roadmap. Whether it gets brought out now, or later, is the question. I think Sussman will get a light sentence (probation) in return for his help. Anyone expecting a long prison sentence for Sussman will be disappointed.

Well, charging one guy with one count of lying to the FBI will not result in that. Never would.

Correct. And he may yet, but he isn't going to get to prove it in this trial, nor should he.

@oldschool4382 You're right. Way above "most of us".

@torreyarguello4681 Well, see, the problem is... that you have one guy charged with one count of one crime, a relatively small crime, of "lying to the FBI". It really doesn't matter what he lied about. The judge has actually allowed far more evidence to be brought in than I expected, such as emails from Fusion GPS and Glen Simpson. If you read all the pleadings and rulings, the judge is being pretty broad in what he allows Durham to include. The legal question for the trial is "Did he lie, or not?" No one else is charged with anything and no one else can be put on trial. The judge doesn't have to be paid off. I wouldn't expect any judge to allow Durham to attempt to indict or convict anyone but the defendant on the crime charged. And I wouldn't expect any judge to allow evidence to be used that is irrelevant to the charge, and he has not. That's what grand juries are for. Durham needs to present that evidence to the grand jury and get indictments of other people. I think he will. Anyone expecting a trial for one count of lying to the FBI to be about more than one count of lying to the FBI will be disappointed, because that is an unreasonable expectation. It doesn't matter if you or I like that or not.
