  1. She is avoiding a primary challenge in 2 years when she is up for reelection. She is also poisoning the well for a Dem challenger. If the Dems run a challenger against her, the Republican will win. Sinema would split the vote with the Dem and give the win to the Republican...no matter who that is. (for the same reason Dems never run a Senate candidate in Vermont of Maine because of popular Independents in those states) Until now she needed funding from the DNC, now she doesn't. She is popular in AZ and will easily cruise to reelection as an Independent. This is a very shrewd and smart political move, perfectly timed, on her part. Joe Manchin could do the same thing.
