@AppleTech90 Apple, Matthew 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
.
Please believe God's holy words.

Kansai, thanks for your long post explaining things. I've lived in Kansai for nearly 3 decades, and what you write sounds similar to what I've discovered. With the current usd/jpy rate tho, 100,000jpy is only around 700usd. The average salary in Japan now is about half what it is in America. However, there are many ways to save, as you don't need a car if you live in a city, you can get cheap apts under 40,000jpy/month, etc.
.
My big problem is that the Japanese govt. is getting stricter and stricter regarding permanent visas, so unless one gets hired by a big company (or university), or else marries a Japanese, the prospects of obtaining a PR visa are slim.

Onsen spas are big business in Japan. They are in large buildings, segregated by women and men, and you take off your clothes, put them in a little locker with a key, go sit on a stool and take a shower/shampoo, rinse off, then soak in a hot bath. There are usually 3 or 4 kinds of baths, bubbly, outdoors (with wall around it), sauna, etc. When finished you towel off, use a provided hair dryer, get your stuff, and finished.
.
The above generally holds true for traditional onsens, except that there is many only one bath for each gender.
.
Please note that there is definitely no soap in the big bath, and you must wash down before getting in. Towels are not allowed in the bath water, but many people put them on their heads while in the bath. Oh yes, people with tattoos are forbidden in most onsens.
.
Hope you come enjoy them one day!

@Kreosky Kreosky, the general view seems to be that Buddhism is intertwined with Shinto in many ways, so as to be almost indistinguishable except by name and architecture, but the main view is that Buddhism takes care of funerals, and is the main way one pays respects to ancestors, by going to Buddhist graves, having a Buddhist altar, calling on Buddhist priests to come to your house and chant some sutras once in a while etc.
.
The Japanese Buddhism admits there is a God/Gods, which, of course, if very different from most other sects/branches of Buddhism.
.
Buddhism came to Japan from the Chinese in the 600s it is said, so is a foundational part of Japanese culture, with many important historical events and important cultural properties being in temples or connected closely with them.
.
But other than taking care of funerals, I don't see young people having anything to do with it, and many temples and shrines have closed within the last few years because of the population collapse.
.
Oh, one more thing, Buddhism has a strong sense of aceticism, which is another turn-off for many young people, but an attraction for those in middle and elder years who see the follies of this world.
.
As a Christian, I've heard several stories of people who said they were Buddhist, but it never really made sense to them, other than paying respects to their ancestors.

@baotruc236 bao, Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
.
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day [is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:
11 For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
.
John 14:6 Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
.
Please repent, and follow your Creator - Jesus Christ.

@@homie3461 homie, Jesus Christ is calling you to repent, turn from the sins that are turning you into your current leader, and receive his gift of eternal life.
.
Revelation 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, [was there] the tree of life, which bare twelve [manner of] fruits, [and] yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree [were] for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
4 And they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] in their foreheads.
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
.
I hope to see you there!

Again, the young people show more wisdom and awareness of the world than the old people.
.
I remember Japan in the bubble era. Osaka skyline was cranes, cranes, cranes. The people walked fast, had things to do, places to go, and hopes for the future.
Now those cranes are in Cambodia and Indonesia, the people blankly walk scrolling their phones, have only work and school, don't want to go out, and no hope for the future.
.
Sad to see the decline of Japan.

@theinktician inktician, there seem to be two main ideas vying for the supremacy - one of which is that Japan needs to severely restrict the number of foreigners living in Japan, and the other saying that Japan should be more like foreign countries and be acceptive of foreigners.
.
Seems like the first foreigner who goes on welfare in Japan causes a huge debate about how foreigners are coming to Japan to fleece the Japanese. My take on that is a bit simplistic, I admit, but it's kind of like many Japanese are happy to have foreigners here as long as the foreigners are working, in good health, and in general adding something monetarily to Japanese society. When those foreigners are on the receiving end, then sayonara.
But yes, I know this mindset applies to native Japanese people as well, as I've helped a number of homeless Japanese people over the years.
.
I could get a permanent visa now if the rules were the same as they were in 2014, or even if the same as spring 2019. But not with the rules added that summer.

@normicikida3844 norm, you are denigrating the Qur'an AND the Bible:
Sura 3:3 He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel.
.
So what does the Torah and the Gospel say about Jesus? Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
.
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
.
We see the Torah calls Jesus "The mighty God", and in the Gospel Jesus says of himself: "I AM".
.
Instead of remaining a disbeliever, why not repent, call on your Creator - Jesus Christ, and enjoy his cleansing of your sins and your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life?

@missplainjane3905 I was thinkinig about this video last nite a bit - most of the people interviewed are college aged, or in their 20s, it appears. Of course they would just give info on what they like themselves, without thinking of the position of being a foreigner to Japan.
.
I realize not every foreigner coming to Japan wants to know about Japanese history, or even to learn anything at all about Japan. Some people may be entirely happy just walking a few streets in Tokyo, eating some food, shopping, and going back.
.
But for most foreigners who come for something other than shopping, I believe they would want to go to some museums, and especially see Nara, Kyoto, and Hiroshima. And in fact, I book i saw published about 10 years ago on the most popular places for foreign tourists in Japan mentioned these 3 places, along with I think Asakusa in Tokyo.
.
Oh, one more thing, no one mentioned a castle, and you cannot understand Japan well without considering their castle and especially samurai culture.

Michael, just a note of warning. Many westerners who have come to Japan that I know love everything for 2 years, hate everything for 2 years, like some things for 2 or 3 years, hate some things for 2 or 3 years, and go thru that cycle as they learn more things about the real Japan. Most of them quit Japan either around the 3 year mark, 10 year mark, or 17 year mark. Less than 10% have stayed over 22 years.
.
Things that might make you think twice: If you are employed full-time at a Japanese company, you are expected to put the company first in your life, over God, yourself, or family. Also, Japanese women control everything in the homes. The laws are not in foreigners' favor, so, for example, if the Japanese spouse wants to run off with the kids and never see you again, there is nothing you can do about it.
.
Good luck!

@seek6044 seek, sorry, youtube didn't notify me... The 86 year old man and elderly woman who has a sister in America, along with the woman wearing a white jacket in the park were all out of touch. I got the impression that they have watched too much NHK, and have been brainwashed.
.
Yes, their cost of living was off. That man said over 100k a month! His take on the bubble was off, and he thinks Japan is a comfortable place to live because the language is hard to learn (!?). The woman's ideas about immigration are off, and she thinks Russia wants to take over Japan!!! The woman in the white jacket thinks Japan is very big, and many foreigners are choosing to live in rural places in Japan. This is classic NHK brainwashing, as they make a special documentary showing 2 or 3 foreigners who have chosen to live in rural areas, and then leave the impression that many foreigners are living there, when they aren't at all.
.
The 63 year old man who spent a large part of his life overseas was based. No doubt he hasn't watched as much NHK as his elders. The younger people were pretty based too, except that one young lady who just wants to buy whatever without thinking of the price. The guy from Chiba who looks like a playboy was the most based of all, with the guy in all black not able to understand the world around him yet.
