Foreigners who work in Japanese companies feel the pressure as much or more. Foreigners who freelance/gig, have perhaps the best of both worlds. :)

You are right that many people on the West Coast have "open minds". They are so liberal their brains have pretty much fallen out....

「日本の文化を守り」 それが問題や。

Maybe you don't know much about rural areas in Japan? It's more and more necessary, with all the train line closings, to own a car. Of course Japanese aren't having kids much anymore, so it's not a problem for a huge number of people.
5
Shikata, why should it be so that those who break the customs of Japan are not welcome? That type of thinking got Japan into a world of trouble around 80 years ago. Let's don't repeat the mistakes of the past.

Richard: God bless you for helping. However, the culture in Japan has many problems, being a vertical society without God.

There IS something special about being American. I'm very glad and thankful to all the Puritans and Patriots especially who shed their blood in order to raise up the freest, greatest country in the world today.

Canadians are not Americans.

@TunTheOfficial God bless you!

@Matt-Hazel That's great! I'm currently doing Duolingo Vietnamese, but just started this month. . I've been in Japan almost 3 decades, but not consecutively, so haven't been able to get a permanent visa. The govt. is making rules stricter and stricter, so I'll never be able to get it. . Unless you are like a doctor or something, probably your only real paths to a PR is to get married to a Japanese, start a business, or work for a Japanese company. . If you have any questions about life in Japan, I'll be glad to give some insights. 頑張って!

This is the most accurate, informative video I've seen on the real homeless situation in Japan.
3
@Phooen When I first came to Japan, the average was around 10 months rent up front. It seems to be down to 4-6 now, which is a major improvement.
2
@USSAnimeNCC- Anime, hopefully you will find out how life works soon, as your conspiracy theory nonsense isn't working too well for you.
2
@jhmcd2 jhmcd2, Based!

176km over unlevel terrain roundtrip from Kokusai Dori to the aquarium. and here you are complaining about it taking 5 hours? Incredible. Please learn about real life soon.

0:42 Blame America. Blame America. Blame America. People with failure complexes often like to blame those who are successful
2
@richardpearce5554 richard, I think he's just talking technicalities, not actualities. Of course if you are getting paid and that pay is being reported, then NG.
2
@LifeWhereImFrom Bingo! I've been friends with a number of homeless over the years here in Osaka, and they were happiest in the city.

The Japanese Immigration website says you have to reside in Japan for 10 consecutive years in order to apply for permanent visa status. But this video says just 5 years to become naturalized? Have the rules changed recently?
1
Thank you very much for this information, Life!
1
The "Indians" in the Americas drove out those who lived there before them, so no, they aren't "native" either.
1
Your superiority complex is unamusing, Eido.
1
Your projection of your values onto others is sad to see, Denni. Jesus Christ created us humans on day 6, around 6,000 years ago. While having separate nations was probably not his first plan, in a world without sin, nations did become part of his plan in a world of sin. Feeling an affinity for the country you were born and/or raised in, is natural, and part of what makes people what they are.
1
Antagonisten, I said nothing about "nationalism". So either you made a mistake in replying to me, or else you are good at making strawmen.
1
So how are they culled?
1
A majority of Japanese profess no belief in any god. Only around one percent profess a belief in the one true God - the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
1
Your judgment of me is completely false, but I forgive your ignorance.I have spent many years helping homeless people in Japan.
1
enmorot, where did this video show anything about "how much worse" anything is? You aren't serious that you believe this video showed all the angles to the transportation issue, did you?
1
@thastayapongsak4422 sak, Okinawa is a fairly long island, with the population concentrated heavily in the south and especialy south west. There are less than 1.5 million residents of Okinawa. The population is getting older. Japan has had control of the islands for over 50 years now, and still sees no real need for a train system on the island. . The rail systems on the much bigger islands of Shikoku and Hokkaido are in the red. . Yes, I see much more than traffic congestion. Do you too now?
1
@SherrifOfNottingham Sherrif, You mistakenly assume I have a car, and then go down that proverbial lane. . Was that fun for you?
1
So you have a permanent visa already, or maybe citizenship?
1
Sadly, this video didn't tell the other side of the story that would have showed his numbers to tell a different story. But hey, let's make a simple youtube video that makes money, right?
1
@Jhud69 Jhud, WH is not available in Japan.
1
@ richard, Actually, even if you are getting paid in another country, you are technically not allowed to work in Japan on a tourist visa. . In fact, to be very technical, there is no such thing as a tourist visa in Japan. It is a 90-day temporary stay visa.
1
@ Dan, Japan doesn't have a working holiday visa. edited: Thanks to soupychecks I reviewed, and yes, Japan DOES have a working holiday visa. I've never met anyone on one, and this hasn't come up for discussion among my circle of friends, so I was mistaken.
1
@ soupy, thank you very much for getting me to refresh my information. I've lived many years in Japan, and didn't know Japan had a working holiday program. Sorry for the misinformation I stated. . But yes, Japan doesn't have a tourist visa. It has a 90-day short term visa that is generally considered to be a "tourist visa". . Thank you again for correcting me on the working holiday visa.
1
@soupychecks soupy, I was surprised when checking this morning that Japan started WH visa in 1980! They actually relaxed the rules a bit a few years back, and now several countries' citizens can work for 2 years on a WH visa in Japan (but maybe not consecutive years, depending on the country).
1
@LifeWhereImFrom That's some hard work there! So have you been on a holiday since?😍
1
@richardpearce5554 richard, Please understand we are speaking what the law says. The law says you cannot do business deals while here on holiday. In practicality, it is not enforced, except in rare cases.
1
@ richard, It seems you aren't reading my comments regarding the state of the law regarding visas in Japan.
1
@LifeWhereImFrom The "Shinsekai" and "Shinimamiya" areas of Osaka that used to be all flophouses, are going cool boutique hotels/hostels. "Airin" is still mostly hard core tho.
1
Buttery smooth unfactual charts and speaking, you mean.
1
@ianhomerpura8937 ian, after you live in Japan several decades, you too might start to notice when people post ridiculous stuff about Japan on the net.
1
@LeoMkII Leo, your logic processes are faulty, so you come to a faulty conclusion. . "The effects of.." that you speak of are not supported by "Europe has great public transportation too". . Please use your God-given brain to think properly.
1
@dekaredfire deka likes to show his lack of knowledge out in public. That's actually common these days.
1
Monjayaki is yucky. Okonomi all the way!
1
Okinawa is not good for trains, as basically there is only one city of any size at all.
1
@dorkichiban dork, The Japanese govt. has had control of Okinawa for over 50 years now, and has not seen a compelling need for a rail system there. . That fact alone makes your assertion, and this video, superfluous.
1
You did catch that this video didn't highlight some of the reasons that Okinawa is unsuitable for trains, didn't you?
