  1. I watched a documentary about fgm some years ago, and it was harrowing. Some women are left with awful injuries, not enough skin to draw together to cover the wounds. Some were stitched up so tightly that they had problems. Some had cuts which led to bowel contents leaking into their vaginas, and lots were leaking urine constantly.

  7. What's sadder is older people who become isolated and depressed. Sitting at home waiting and hoping their family might call, attending doctors and hospital appointments all alone, struggling to keep their independence, and becoming depressed.

  11. I did read the statistics for people being tried for the crime, and they were terrible! I think it had been illegal for something like five years, and there had been two cases ever presented to the police. I remember two cases around 15 years ago, too, so perhaps the statistics are improving now.
