In Austria old people are already too poor to heat their rooms! I have 3 degrees in my appartement and also wash myself at that temperature in the kitchen, don t have a bathroom, cause the pipes were frozen and broke. No money to let them repair. Many old people are freezing nowadays, cause the costs of the energy are so high and still rising!🙁

In Canada called heatwave?😎

-5 is nothing. We still have up to -15 degrees in the north of Austria, but not at the moment, thank God. I have a long hot water bottle with a furry bear cover. It s about 1 m long and keeps my bed warm. And fleece bed sheets...very cosy. And warm blankets of course. Then two fluffy jogging suits and I m warm.

My mother carries her hot cherry stone pillow everywhere around in the house. Heats it up in the microwave.

My room is near the roof, so it s cold in the winter and hot in summer. I used an oil radiator for heating it up and an electric blanket in bed. But as the energy prices are so high now, I can t afford that anymore. In Austria they will raise the power supply system prices 30% in January, my energy prices were already raised 25% in October. In summer I take only cold showers, I don t switch on the light anymore in the evening and the bills still get higher and higher! They say it has to do with the war in the Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia...and the climatefriendly new energy sources like solar energy. Already thinking of leaving to a warmer country, but when you are old and not rich, that s not easy. We have winter for half a year, but not a sunny one..only grey and cloudy and dark and wet.😖

@Timetorideagain I m gonna stay away from that place! 😉

My mother also used a warm brick, before she got a cherry stone pillow for the microwave.

I wear knitted leggings, they are great for sleeping, hold you really warm...and thick, fluffy socks.

Fluffy thick socks are the best ones!

@outoforbit00 The same wet, cold, dark weather in the North of Austria. Our summers are hot, but short..and it s often raining. Everything is mouldy and you feel it in your bones! I would like to live in a warmer climate with palm trees, blue sea and white beaches...sob.🫤

@Torgo1969 I am 61, have two degrees Celsius in my rooms, run around in underwear and wash myself in the kitchen, when I ve reached 6 degrees. But I don t do that voluntarily.🥶

@Timetorideagain When I was young we had up to -30 degrees Celsius here in the north of Austria, now sometimes -10 to -15, thank God not more anymore. 🥶

With four years I carried coal from the cellar to the 4th flour to heat the oven for my sick grandma, I was living with. We had only one room to live, the toilet was one floor deeper for all people living there...of course not heated. We had 30 degrees minus in the nights in winter. With 14 I had to hack up furniture to heat. But most people heated with coals at that time in the countryside.

@janne2744 Thank you! I wish you and all the other people here a merry chrismas, not too cold and not too hot.🌲🎁🎅

@pabblo1156 I know...we still have some coal in the cellar of my grandma...my mother uses it now and one room is now warm till the morning. Much better than wood. Austria produces only 0,2 percent CO2 worldwide and we have to freeze and can t heat, cause everything got so expensive. We would also have coal mines here in Austria, but coal is forbidden.🫤

Are the energy prices so affordable in the USA? In Austria they are soo high...and they want to raise them in January again for 30%!
