I did an interview and test for an apprentice (Germany) position and the three remaining candidates were two average guys and one dude who recently migrated to Europe from some African country (maybe not even Southern) who used to have his own design company and was fluent in English. I think they chose the latter. I am sure the guy worked hard to get through life and I am not gonna be the one saying that locals should have priority, but he obviously needed the apprenticeship somewhat less compared to the other applicants (imo). Their rejection landed in my spam and I showed up for the final interview where they wanted to decided between two finalists, and then they had to send me away at the door.
