Working on legacy systems is not attractive. At least to most software engineers and such, yet, as far as I am aware, it makes up the majority of work. A service or app can be perceived as "not hot" enough to work on with brains or passion after even just a few months. Make it years and perhaps they become understaffed and the investor money flows down to the hottest sh1t of present instead of the "old" service. There is also a mindset along the lines of "good enough" induced by the higher ups that affects it all. The factors that drag down these services can be numerous. I even doubt that something now known by most as "AI" actually is at play here.

@sahhull Living in the woods in also a choice then.... The woods would almost care for a Smartphone-less person more than most future societies.

Lol, I just watched Tech Ingredients' videos on the topic. I don't follow what you are up to outside of your two YT channels, so.... this is some coincidence

I watched a Vlogger in 2018 or so and even back then he had that issue. The cam took photos and usually it was himself - naked - and at some point he was fed up with getting notified minutes later with an involuntary nude of himself in the hallway. Was that tech also by Google? I don't know anymore.

The topic of reading analog clocks aside, which weirds me out btw, I was one of the few kids in my class and grade who could tell how much time we had left of a period at any point during class. I learned the "hours" over weeks, months, years, though they changed twice for me over the course of my school life. To say that i did not consciously learn the time table would be a lie. THere were moments when looking at the clock and going through the day in those weird 45 or 50 min increments in my head (or just with closed eyes), with varying lengths of breaks between, seemed more productive than listening to a topic I did not care about at all. The reward was my status as some sort of genius who was sometimes begged at to tell how much a period had progressed or when exactly what class started. It was wild.
