  1. Working on legacy systems is not attractive. At least to most software engineers and such, yet, as far as I am aware, it makes up the majority of work. A service or app can be perceived as "not hot" enough to work on with brains or passion after even just a few months. Make it years and perhaps they become understaffed and the investor money flows down to the hottest sh1t of present instead of the "old" service. There is also a mindset along the lines of "good enough" induced by the higher ups that affects it all. The factors that drag down these services can be numerous. I even doubt that something now known by most as "AI" actually is at play here.

  2. I watched a Vlogger in 2018 or so and even back then he had that issue. The cam took photos and usually it was himself - naked - and at some point he was fed up with getting notified minutes later with an involuntary nude of himself in the hallway. Was that tech also by Google? I don't know anymore.
