Agnipath. A unknown territory. We the people of India hope that the decision for “tour of duty” is deliberate with extensive brainstorming and active study by the Services HQ. We are a democracy and the elected Government has the right to shape the Armed Forces. We are here wading into unchartered waters which will have far reaching consequences for the sovereignty of India. Efficiency of the Armed Forces is not measured by pension bills; all the more so when Defence civilians take away more than 50% of the Defence pension outlay for a strength less than 50% of veterans. @aosaeanor adl* That is not the primary issue. The primary issue is the quality and motivation of the soldier to take a bulletin in the chest. If money were the consideration for the Indian soldier to fight, India would have lost more wars than just one (in 1962). Tailpiece: There is a Nation to be defended.
