Agnipath. A unknown territory. We the people of India hope that the decision for “tour of duty” is deliberate with extensive brainstorming and active study by the Services HQ. We are a democracy and the elected Government has the right to shape the Armed Forces. We are here wading into unchartered waters which will have far reaching consequences for the sovereignty of India. Efficiency of the Armed Forces is not measured by pension bills; all the more so when Defence civilians take away more than 50% of the Defence pension outlay for less than 50% of veterans. Tailpiece: Does the Nation Nation have a right to the study after which this decision has been arrived. That, I suppose is an obligation by the Government to the people and a right of the electo

@sanjaysable2006 Sanjay.... I am talking of post event dissemination which was done post demonetisation too. The Govt need not have to go to the people for taking every decision. But they should infirm the people of the benefits etc if decision. Govts are not enemies of the people, unless you mean to make political comments. Enjoy.

@sanjaysable2006 The decision is within the authority of the Cabinet…no issue there. The problem is that reducing the pension bill (and not improving the Defence capability) is the reason is a bit disconcerting; more so because more than 50% of the Defence pension outlay goes to Defence civilians, whose strength is only about 20% of the veterans. Here, we are inclined to think, restructuring this Defence civilian organization may have been a better approach.
