A factual analysis by SG, for sure. As I write this, I hear that Kabul has fallen. If not yet, it will soon. All problems do not have an immediate solution. India will have two failing states to its West. Even if Afghanistan were to remain in medieval times and just eat and fight, I wonder from where will the supply of arms, ammunition to Afghanistan come from. Will Afghanistan’s economy be based purely on drug trafficking? There s yet hope if fingers are pointed against Pakistan (US has no more use of Pakistan now) an its master China. I believe China is considering recognizing the” Taliban”. Yes, interesting and bloody time ahead. Tailpiece: The only immediate problem for India is from cross border terrorism. India can continue extending help to the Afghan people.

We are missing the point. The fight is not between two armies. It is a civil war between Government forces and the rebels. SG, you are right about the mind game. The Taliban does not care who it kills but a trained soldier just can’t kill faceless “enemies”. After all the Taliban are afghans. Just like the Naxals ( ok, Maoists) in India are Indians. It baffles me that the USA , or the world, did not see it coming decades back. The Indians knew it. So, not boots on ground. Welfare, yes. Tail piece: It is all about extreme Islamism. Islam has to fight Islam to keep peace with Taliban. A tall order?

@UCeYzLC8TUTLniG27TC_OiSQ True. We ARE poor. But the USA wanted Indian boots in Afghanistan. India refused. Whatever the intention of USA, India could easily have had its army in Afghanistan but then what would have happened is a conjecture…

Direct From wiki...poor we are in wealth but... "The Republic of India was the only South Asian country to recognize the Soviet-backed Democratic Republic of Afghanistan in the 1980s, though relations were diminished during the 1990s Afghan civil war and the Taliban government.[3] India aided the overthrow of the Taliban and became the largest regional provider of humanitarian and reconstruction aid to the present day Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.[4][5] Indians are working in various construction projects, as part of India's rebuilding efforts in Afghanistan. Pakistan alleges the Indian intelligence agency R&AW is working in cover to malign Pakistan and train and support insurgents,[6][7][8] a claim rejected strongly by India."
