I feel, with the increasing reach of the media in various media (print, TV, digital etc.), it is time to take these discussions to another level. The discussion should now focus on the approach to economic development, law and order, social uplift etc. of the political parties rather than on their winnability by any other means. Discourses always, on just “politics” does not benefit the Nation in any way. Tailpiece: We need to focus on the approach to National progress and development by political parties more, rather than on caste creed and such stuff. Can The Print take a lead?

Perceptions (internal and external) is vital for a strong democracy to sustain. The battlefield encompasses information influence, economy (sanctions) and even sports like Cricket, Olympic Games etc… This is a vast subject by itself which Snehesh may take on one day. There is no harm in disseminating any information except tactical plans and troop dispositions (also any other particular sector specific aspect so defined).   13. A unique presentation by The Print (thanks SG) which throws light on major fault lines in Indian Defence strategies. It is an indisputable fact that Pakistan is one of the two – the other being China – major adversaries of India. Whereas talks and diplomacy are ways to diffuse potentially explosive situations and overcome adversaries, one can win in these parleys only from a position of strength – meaning, to have a potent and deadly Armed Forces. While in Pakistan and China, with whom we have long borders of varied terrain and climatic conditions, the Armed Forces have a great say in matters of National security, unfortunately we cannot say the same of our great Nation. Since more than a couple of decades back, our senior military leaders are perceived to be administratively ( provide necessary equipment, keep the morale of the Forces up, not dilute dignity etc…., so essential to face adversities) weak. Tailpiece: Are we (the people, the legislature, the governments, the executives and the judiciary) as a Nation taking our Armed Forces for granted? Just remember no other democracy except India has such vast and varied land & sea borders and air spaces to guard in order to preserve the sovereignty. The sooner the Nation wakes up to these facts the safer our future generations will be.

In any move, like in chess, some moves in advance are planned. But we must encourage a fair attempt for brining sanity between the communities. Religion is a highly misunderstood and misused dispensation in the world. Tailpiece: It would be nice if the media helps positively. I feel RSS is not aiming to reconciling with Muslims , who are all good (like any Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi or whoever), but with Islam, the most exploited idea in the world. It may be recalled that we cannot expect politicians to take initiative (as they have their vote banks to consider); the overtures and actions towards reconciliation have to be initiated by religious leaders. Anybody can see that. Note: There is a difference in reconciling with Muslims (they are like all other Indians) and Islam and vice versa.

A difficult task, unless China is not interested in Afghanistan - which is not a possibility. In the context, will the “QUAD-2” (UAE-Israel-India-US) play an influencing role in Afghanistan. Remember "the Strength, the Money, the Technology and the Strategy" statement of Israel MEA? An alternative to Pakistan if it come to that. Tailpiece: The Indian priority should be to break the drug economy of Afghanistan has to be broken, if repeats of the ongoing "Tamasha" of youngsters, celebrities, governments etc... is not to be repeated. The Defence forces or even the para military (who are trained to deal with the society) can’t know who have the guns and who don’t because of the ‘silent’ majority who are terrified of those who have the guns (terrorists?). A phenomenon more prominent in the border states (not surprised). Tailpiece: We the people should know these problems faced by the paramilitary and the Defence forces. Collateral damage is a collateral in handling such situations. The silent majority need to speak up and act and not speak only when there is some damage.

The Hindutva or rather “anti-Hindutva” and” secular” are no more trump cards for the opposition parties. The refrain is if political parties can be parochial (TMC, SS, DMK, TRS etc..), religion based (Muslim leagues, Akali etc..), Clan based (Yadavs, Gujjars etc.) and Dalit based (BSP etc.) or Dynastic (INC,SS, Yadavs, DMK, TRS etc..) why can’t there be a party which is “Hindu” based? What is the difference in any of these approaches? In electoral democracies every political party will attempt to create a strong faithful voter base. THAT is a natural process. In such an environment it is difficult to separate the wrong from the right in politics. Tailpiece: There never was, is or will be a Utopia (Ramrajya).The electorate has realized that Governance is all about the Nation to deliver Roti, Kapda and Makkan to its people. All else are distractions. Economy and development (Ease of living) will be key. In order to further preserve Indian democracy, the opposition parties have to change tactics and strategies. The real question to ask is, why are we (including the Judiciary) waking up to these pitfalls in democracy and asking questions only now, after more than seven decades of Independence.
