But any democratic system will always have an opposition that doesn't agree with the government. And freedom of speech allows for that. The prime minister doesn't need to secretly listen in on the leader of the opposition to know that he doesn't agree with her. And if the government is killing off the opposition, like Putin does, then I would say you don't live in a democratic system to begin with. Never mind about surveillance.

The Guardian got its hands burned, didn't it! Teaming up with Glenn Greenwald and Julian Assange! They turned out to be nothing more than useful idiots. Willing to work against western democracy, not for it. And where is Edward Snowdon now?

We don't live in a world of absolutes. Security services need to gather information on, for instance, terrorist suspects in order to prevent terror attacks. This Guardian video is very misleading in its claim that ''there is absolutely no evidence all that mass surveillance [we don't have mass surveillance] has stopped a single terrorist attack' Actually, yes there is. And we can say that without knowing what evidence was used and how that evidence was gathered. As there have been a number of arrests in relation to planned terror attacks. The fact that US & UK intelligence agencies can hack people's communications and listen in on private communications is no surprise. How do you expect them to do their job otherwise?
