  2. Government spending cuts came in with David Cameron's election back in 2010. A full 6 years before the Brexit vote. Because of Labour overspending, and the vast debt that it had built up. Which all happened while the UK was in the EU. So why the comedian with the beard thinks that has anything to do with Brexit idk. Perhaps he is surreptitiously hoping he can somehow link the two in order to blame Brexit for cuts that began back in 2010?

  5. The claim is 'Northern Europe'. Which appears to be an arbitrary distinction from, I'm guessing, the very many parts of Europe that are far poorer than the UK - Basically, its just a claim that picks out the wealthiest parts of Europe, included the UK, then named it 'northern Europe'.

  7. Cameron was elected on an 'austerity' platform. Whether you blame labour for the need for austerity in the first place or not, the country still believed it necessary. And I would certainly question whether your explanation is as easy as all that. EU membership has never been popular in the UK. There is (far worse) anti-immigrant sentiment across the European continent than in the UK. And there is no evidence that anyone blames immigrants for the financial crises. You only link the financial crises with Brexit because its convenient for you to explain away why the people voted to leave. If you are on the left, that's handy because you get to blame the financial system for Brexit - rather than a natural dislike of a political union with Europe. But you could just as well link the financial crises to the labour party.

  8. I disagree. The idea that those who voted to leave the EU feel 'left behind' is just another attempt to paint them as sad or (in the case of blaming immigrants for a global financial crises) bad. But those who still campaign to remain seem to want it both ways. One moment they claim the EU has no effect on everyday life and that successive governments have only ever used it as a scapegoat, then the next they say the EU effects every aspect of the UK from workers rights to the NHS. But it can't be both. The reality is that its as simple as the desire to control your own affairs. That's not complicated at all. Wars have been fought over such a thing for thousands of years. Because it does matter who governs you. It's all good for continental Europeans to talk of political union. But the UK has strong historical links across the globe. It has more in common with the US, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, than France or Germany. But you'd be hard pressed to successfully argue the case for political union there.

  9. Yes, strong historical links. One being that we share a common language. Sure, you can say we all settled from Europe anyhow, depending on how far back you want to go. But then its very likely we all originated in Africa. Only I don't hear you making the case for political union with Botswana. As for whether our other non-European NATO allies have the best interests of the UK in mind, I'm guessing the answer is no less than mainland Europe does. And in many cases considerably more. And are you claiming that in order to trade with, say, Canada, the UK would have to come under the jurisdiction of Canadian law? That's an extraordinary thing to say. And in light of the recent Canadian/EU trade deal, I can only assume you think the EU, and by extension the UK, now operates under Canadian law.
