You clearly know fuck all about the middle east if you think it was stable when Saddam, Gaddafi, and all those other bloodthirsty despots were in charge. You also ignore the fact that when it comes to Syria, Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia, it was the people of those countries that decided it was time for their dictators to go. So to say they brought stability is as stupid as saying a boat floats. Right up until it sinks. When it comes to Assad, he could have stepped down and none of this would have happened. But he decided to fight until the last drop of blood (not his own blood obviously). Had the world stood as one against him, Syria might be like Tunisia. But unfortunately for the Syrian people Assad has Russian support. And Putin couldn't care less about freedom and democracy in Russia. Let alone Syria. He desperately wants to keep hold of his Mediterranean navel bases on Syria's coast. So he just keeps on selling attack helicopters, missiles, and bombs. And even joins in with indiscriminate bombing himself. As for ISIS, Putin is far more interested in attacking the Free Syrian Army. What do you think that Russian jet shot down by the Turks was doing near the Turkish boarder? They weren't bombing ISIS. They were bombing Turkmen tribesmen. Putin and his bloodthirsty puppet Assad want to knock the FSA out of the war. To force the west to chose between ISIS and Assad. But until Assad is gone, there will never be peace. So compared to Syria, Libya is a haven of tranquillity.

  3. +Katie You have conveniently forgotten the Arab Spring. Which kicked off in Tunisia (nowhere near Iraq) and swept into Egypt and Libya and on into Syria. How those governments responded decided the fate of their countries. Tunisia was a success. But Gaddafi decided that he would rather destroy Libya than step down . And with the aid and support of Putin, Assad has decided the same. Dictators never claim responsibility for their actions. Neither do they give up power. Your idea of a slow crawl towards democracy in Syria is a complete fantasy (and I'm sure you know this to be the case in Russia too). Do you really think a man like Assad, a man who is destroying his country with the help of the Kremlin, would ever give up power by the ballot box? Surely you are not that stupid? And once again you have completely ignored the Syrians. It was not Obama who demanded Assad step down. It was the Syrian people. Any fool can see there can never be peace in Syria until Assad steps down. If you support tyrants against their people you allow the extremists a foothold. But like I said, it is vital for the Russians that Assad remains in power. No matter what. Assad is Putin's puppet and the vast majority of Syrians have died at his hand. The Kremlin is making a literal killing with arms exports to Assad's regime. And the Syrian people are paying for the very weapons that are being used against them. It is truly sickening.

  7. +philzambo. The Free Syrian Army have done the most fighting against ISIS. By attacking the FSA, Assad and the Russians have only helped ISIS.

  8. The Kurdish Peshmerga have fought alongside the Free Syrian Army against ISIS. But up until recently the Assad regime has had very little interest in taking on ISIS. And despite their propaganda, the same is true of the Russians. This is a three way war. And not a simple Assad vs ISIS battle.

  10. Syria is screwed now. And will continue to be so long as Assad remains in power. The only hope of any kind of peace is if Assad steps down. But unfortunately Putin won't allow that. He is desperate to keep his military bases in the Mediterranean. So the war goes on.

Is it that bad a thing that a dictator who has killed tens of thousands of his own people, tortured to death thousands more, used chemical weapons against them, and bombs them in their homes steps down from power?   26. We all know what needs to happen. Assad has to go. And there can be no peace in Syria until he does. But we know that the Russians will not allow their puppet to step down. They cannot. They fear they may lose their navel bases in the Mediterranean. They need conflict in the middle east to stop oil prices from falling any lower. And of course, they need the extra money that weapons sales to the Assad regime bring in. So they will do just enough to keep him clinging on to power. Ultimately they want to knock out the Free Syrian Army in order to force the west into siding with Assad against ISIS. That is why despite their propaganda they have been concentrating their bombs on the FSA. And not ISIS.
