Can't blame Brexiteers. Tusk is negotiating with Theresa May. She voted to remain. Tusk needs to rethink his position if he wants to prevent a hard border in Ireland.

@theformalmooshroom9147 The success of the democratic system is that the ballot box overrides the demands of men with guns. In other words, you wouldn't want to live in a country where policy is set by people who plant bombs in crowded marketplaces. If, as a signatory to the good Friday agreement, the Republic of Ireland has handed that responsibility to a third party (the EU) then the EU is as much responsible for upholding that agreement as the UK. Which means it cannot simply make demands, and then threaten to set up a hard border if its demands aren't met. That is breaking the good Friday agreement.

The answer to this problem is that when Brussels builds its hard border in Ireland, we simply knock it down again!

@johnny5wd567 You're right up to a point. Parliament voted to hold a referendum, and promised to abide by the result, only they had no real intention of doing so. So they're looking for a way not to do what they promised they would do. But the Irish border question is different. Parliament has rejected the EU's ridiculous proposal, but Brussels is not willing to come to an agreement acceptable to the UK. So on this issue, the EU is effectively tearing up the good Friday agreement, and its not even a signatory to it!

@theformalmooshroom9147 The heavily policed border in Ireland (as apposed to normal border controls between nations) was set up as a direct result of the actions of the IRA. If the IRA dont want the hard border to return, they simply have to not set off bombs in public places.
