She works in a vacuous skin-deep industry where looks are all that matters. Fashion photographers airbrush models all the time. And no. Black women's hair is no more important to black women than anyone else's hair is to anyone else. What a waste of airtime. Channel 4 news needs to sack their producer. Fuckin shit designed to stir up racial identity politics based on a culture of victimhood. Then you stand back and look all innocent and surprised when others follow your example.

No. One privileged woman's hissy fit is not news.

You cannot blame a present day photographer for what went on before Malcolm X. And the fashion industry is not where you want to be if you're concerned about how women see themselves. Like I said, it is vacuous and empty. It's all about looks. Not feelings. That is how she makes her money. For her looks and for no other reason.
2
Refusing to play the game? She is only employed because of her looks. And name one person in the fashion industry who discourages black women from valuing themselves.

The fashion industry represents an ideal. You can buy into that ideal. You can make money from that ideal (as she herself does). Or you can take responsibility for your own actions and decide not to straighten your own hair. Victimhood is not a virtue. It gets you nothing but pity. And this whole non-issue is truly pitiful.

Only she's not challenging any ideal. She's simply playing victim. Most likely because she knows it will get her publicity. And it has. And publicity is how she makes her money.
2
What I see is a very privileged individual cynically using race to further her career. Two other individuals playing along. And the inevitable results of that in the comments.

One privileged woman's hissy fit is not the bigger picture.
2
Privileged model's hissy fits are big stories now, are they? Or is just that they're reduced to scraping the bottom of the barrel in an ever more desperate attempt to encourage the cult of victimhood?
2
Its not my problem that this non-story has so little to justify itself. Does channel 4 news have the guts to accuse the photographer of racism? Name names. After all, if this was a hate crime then there needs to be a perpetrator as well as a victim, right?

Come back when you have an argument that isn't a meaningless cliche.

''channel four are more alert to the bigger picture while allowing their audience to reach their own conclusions and to discuss them here'' ''C4 cannot be expected to shrink themselves and their coverage to the lack of imagination or stupidity of their least imaginative or most stupid viewers..'' Is the news supposed to be subjective to the point that we must use our imaginations to create our own news out of nothing? You speak in media studies jargon. And like most people who do the same, you don't like it when others refuse to play along.
