  1. The good Friday agreement is between the UK and the Republic of Ireland (although in reality the republic have very little say on the matter, as the EU dictates their position). If for any reason one side makes unacceptable demands on the other and refuses to negotiate, leading to a hard border, then they have broken the agreement. Its as if the UK were to demand that the republic of Ireland hand over control of trade policy to London, and to refuse to back down from that demand, and then blame the Irish for breaking the agreement - James O'Brian knows this (or he should do), but as he supports the EU against the interests of the UK, he's happy to ignore that.
