Some people are still in denial over the kremlin's chemical attack in the UK. Might I suggest forced deportation to Russia?
6
Then the headlines were correct. Because the UK government said it was novichok, and, as the OPCW has said in its SUMMARY OF THE REPORT ON ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN SUPPORT OF A REQUEST FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE BY THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND, 'The results of analysis by the OPCW designated laboratories of environmental and biomedical samples collected by the OPCW team confirm the findings of the United Kingdom relating to the identity of the toxic chemical that was used in Salisbury and severely injured three people'

2
So, seeing as the OPCW has confirmed it was novichok, I'll ask again. What exactly is fake about this? What did the Guardian and other newspapers report that was wrong?
2
MDH Have a lot of experience with chemical nerve agents, do you?
2
Not claims. The UN and OPCW themselves have verified Assad's use of chemical weapons.
2
Matt Zucchini The OPCW isn't on the ground yet. They still haven't been able to reach the site. I wonder why? And what do you think they will find? Sarin? Both the kremlin and the Assad regime better hope not. Because they have claimed they had information that it was all a hoax. The Russian ambassador himself reported to the UN that Russian specialists found no evidence of a chemical attack. So remember, if the OPCW finds traces of sarin, or chlorine gas, then either the Russian's are lying at the UN. Or their specialists are incompetent.
1
louise Corbett Not this time. Not according to the Russian ambassador to the UN and his experts. Remember, he has claimed they found nothing.
1
Matt Zucchini Nothing stopping Assad from inviting the OPCW to investigate the site. He alone can give them access. So why hasn't he?
1
Matt Zucchini What site do you want them to investigate? They are supposedly investigating Douma. Although they have no mandate to investigate who was responsible. And as I said, if Assad and Putin's claims are true, they could invite the OPCW to inspect Assad's recently bombed chemical weapons facility. Why don't they?
1
Matt Zucchini The Russian ambassador to the UN claimed Russian specialists had already investigated the Douma site, and found nothing. So clearly the Russian's are not having problems securing the area for their own investigation. Only when it comes to the OPCW's investigation. And once again, Assad could invite the OPCW to investigate the sites targeted by the US, UK, and France, any time he liked. It doesn't need a UN mandate for that.
1
Matt Zucchini The OPCW mission came under fire as they carried out a preliminary inspection. They were shot at and explosives were detonated. So I have no idea what Emily Thornberry was talking about. Most likely, neither does she. Clearly the UN is not prepared to act to stop the use of chemical weapons. Not while Russia (a country that has itself used chemical weapons in the UK recently) consistently vetoes action. So if the UN won't act, I'm perfectly happy to know someone else will.
1
Assad isn't winning the war. He barely controls half the country. He's just recently captured Douma, a suburb of Damascus. His own capital. Nearly seven years of war, and all that France, the US, and the UK can do is take out a handful of targets that Assad claims were medical facilities, injuring or killing 3 people? Hardly evidence of a grand conspiracy. Doesn't make sense. Unless you realise that the west knew where Assad was manufacturing his chemical weapons. Then it makes perfect sense.
1
You're just ignoring what's right in front of you.
1
Get that from 'south front', did you? Or was it one one of the other Russian fake sites?
1
Yes. Strange how Russian specialists and journalists can carry out their investigations in Douma unhindered, but whenever the OPCW turn up, someone starts shooting at them ...Or not really strange. Because we all knew that was how it would play out. Here is that same Russian 'journalist' receiving the 'Order of Merit for the Fatherland' from Vladimir Putin back in January 2017 https://youtu.be/b7-h2M5JLwM ...When you're being given something called the Order of Merit for the Fatherland' you should know your on the wrong side of history.

Neil Sumner The Assad regime has a very brutal history. It's a dictatorship. You think they can't get a kid to say what they want him to say on tv? It's clear Russia is playing for time in an effort to hide the truth from the OPCW.
1
Neil Sumner Well, we do know that Assad is a dictator. Power was handed to him by his father, and the Assad family have been in power for some 40 years. And we know he's brutal. Because anyone who would rather see his country collapse into civil war rather than leave power would have to be just that. And we know he has used chemical weapons. As documented by the UN and OPCW ...Although Don't remember May or Cameron killing 120,000 Brits (if that's what you mean). Perhaps you should check your sources on that one? lol
1
Neil Sumner I guess some would argue austerity is directly the result of massive UK debt? And, really? Assad never wanted power? He's been in power for 18 years. I'm not aware that Peter Hitchens carried out his own research and investigation into Assad's chemical weapons. But I am aware that the kremlin has been working in advance to undermine the credibility of the OPCW.
1
Neil Sumner I'm not interested in watching Russian propaganda or loony right wing conspiracy channels. And Peter Hitchens' argument has already been repeated here. It's basically 'why would Assad use chemical weapons knowing what would happen?' Well, that's a circular argument. Because if he's been using them, which both the UN and OPCW believe, and nothing happens as a result (apart from a few missiles hitting the runway of one of his airbases), then there's your answer as to why he uses them. Because he can get away with it. Chemical weapons are by far his most potent weapon. Very useful when dealing with an enemy that is well dug in (the reason why all sides used it during the trench warfare of world war one). Like the forces in Douma. That have been holding out since the beginning of the war in Syria. The OPCW and UN both hold Assad responsible for the Khan Shaykhun chemical attack (regardless of what Hitchens may think). But apart from Trump's unilateral action, what did the UN do? Nothing.
1
When Assad finally allows the OPCW in to investigate the suspected chemical attack in Douma, we'll see if there is any truth to Russia's claims of it being a hoax. If they find traces of sarin (highly likely), we'll know the Russian's are lying. It will also prove that Russia is covering up Assad's use of chemical weapons. As they will have known Assad was about to carry out the attack.
1
What exactly is fake about this? What are they reporting that is fake? Do you know? Or are you just talkin out your ass?
1
John Kearns. I'd hardly call it scepticism. There's just plain denial from the kremlin, backed up by misinformation and outright lies. Both the UN and OPCW verified Assad's use of chemical weapons last year.
