  2. Up until a week or so ago, 40% of Venezuelan oil went to the USA. The US market has literally been financing Venezuelan spending all the time the Maduro regime has been in power. Meanwhile, Russian oil giant Rosneft has been propping up the Maduro regime with massive loans, that the regime then spends on Russian weaponry. Venezuela is one of Russia's most important customers when it comes to arms sales. According to Rosneft vice-president Didier Casimiro, Rosneft has so far made a total of US$890m in interest payments on those loans. And Rosneft expects those payment to continue on schedule.
