In fact most of Western Europe has those things and their birth rates are even lower than the US

Going back to Islam after fall of state atheist USSR and mass exodus of low birth rate ethnic Russians who moved en masse to Russia since then definitely played a role

No. Japan disproves that. When their population was still growing, every generation has gotten more prosperous than the last. Now that their population has started declining , what’s happened? The economy’s gotten worse and worse, they’ve started to get poorer and most young Japanese today feel hopeless. Same with young people in countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal and Greece, and now it’s happening now in China and South Korea too now their population is declining, with their economies once booming, now also getting worse. Declining population has proven time and time again to drag down the economy and hopes of the younger generation

Germany and Scandinavia work the least amount of hours per week yet low birth rates. People in developing world tend to work extremely long hours actually and they have higher birth rates

@joshuat3686 Well before the 1960s-70s, birth rates in Germany and Scandinavia were also much higher than now, despite the more relaxed cultural shift

Denser, more walkable and more mixed use, and well served by commuter rail going into city. That said, northeast does have America’s lowest fertility rates though

And interesting fact. Poor countries with low birth rates(low gdp per capita, low tfr combo), seem to often have history of communism. They include Russia, most of Eastern Europe, China, North Korea, Cuba

London and Paris have higher fertility rate than national average because in UK and France, they are where the high birth rate African immigrants are concentrated. In countries without this confounding factor, they almost universally have lower fertility rate than national average. It’s also shown in terms of fertility by area specifically and in UK and France, lowest is in the predominantly white areas of London and Paris
