Well incomes during their parents and grandparents generations were very low-not long ago, China was very poor, thus young Chinese tend to barely have any generational wealth to receive and need to support older generations a lot

Well yes, generally big cities have lower birth rates

China’s net immigration is strongly negative which further drives down population

I mean yes, shifting to a service economy based on skills rather than physical strength does mitigate the aging problem in economy somewhat by shifting age-productivity curve right(eg teens become less productive under service sector economy, those in their 50s and 60s more productive)

@Voidapparate Yep, by then the culture around having kids in that country has fundamentally changed

@qrzone8167 As for the US, a lot of the demographic spike is also due to US opening their borders to new immigrants with the flow of immigrants increasing dramatically post 1980. Furthermore, America’s birthright citizenship incentivized immigrants to have children in America to speed up naturalization for parents with their kids already being US citizens which definitely also played a role in millennial-early gen Z demographic spike

@remainsofmewu2548 Yeah, generally when a country already has low birth rate. It’s culture around having kids has fundamentally changed meaning that it’s pretty much impossible to go back to high birth rates again
