@theharper1 747 are loud because it’s old. It’s more of a matter of age. Newer planes, including A380 tend to be quieter than older ones both in terms of engine and the improved soundproofing of cabin

Yep, instead of further engaging in the plane size wars, Boeing decided to step back and instead come out with the modest, but efficient 787 which ended up selling like hotcakes
