In the US, there's is actually quite strong positive correlation between church attendance rates and how charitable a state is believe it or not. Perhaps it does play a big role

@Kitajima2 japan prefer being natural. Chinese couldn't afford plastic surgery until recent years(they were very poor until recently)

neither country has tipping culture. Its only an american thing. Heck, even europe doesn't have a tipping culture. Rule is outside of america(including in both korea and japan), waiters find tips awkward

I think japanese being more conservative while koreans being more liberal, might also be due to economic situation. Japan's economy has stagnated and their cultural influence diminished since 1990s, while korean economy+cultural influence is growing. Japanese may have more 20th century mindset, while koreans may have more 21st century mindset as a result. Lower unemployment may be due to the fact that japanese workforce is shrinking and lower rates of labor force participation generally in japan

Actually it's the large blue cities in the US that are socially indifferent and have a cold hearted reputation like NYC, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, etc, and are also a lot less charitable. The Trump supporting regions of US are actually the most warm hearted, hospitable and charitable(based on charity donation data), believe it or not

@kageyamareijikun Christianity has not had much success in Asia. In Asia only in Philippines are most people Christian. Contrast it to Africa, Americas and Oceania where vast majority of indigenous people have all been converted into Christianity since colonization

@lennethvalkyrie6919 in those islamic countries, rape is often legal, since women are treated as objects. In fact, reporting rape in those islamic countries often gets you charged with adultery. Actually highest rates of rape are found in feminist western countries(notice how the rate of rape in european countries plus, usa, canada and australia is very high), because there is little stigma reporting them and lot of support for rape victims
