Sure there have been periods when sharia was less well enforced, but these were always followed by crackdowns by more devout movements that enforced sharia more strictly, usually with lots of bloodshed. The attack on Israel in '48 was religious not political, as HMS showed us again recently. The endless slaughter in Syria is religious. Same with Yemen. The close collaboration of the grand mufti of Jerusalem and Adolf Hitler was because they had a common aim, and for the mufti this was religious. Sometimes Simon you ignore the historical evidence of what the cult actually teaches and commands. Go read some books by Raymond Ibrahim to get a better perspective on the cult, its violent history, and its central doctrines.
