Qira'at is late (10th century), and arose because of significant differences (that remain!) in the Qurans. It was left, apparently, to ibn Mujahid and others to solve these problems by establishing different, but equally canonical readings. Who gave them authority to do that?   26. Whatever ahruf were they were eliminated in the Uthman standardisation. From that time onwards there should have been just one text of the quran - purely because a human decided what words to use and commanded that all other quranic texts be destroyed. Uthman was a partner of al-lah.
