Yes, and some of us remember when it had a REAL straight, the great Conrod Straight. It became a safety issue when several lives were lost mostly as a result of vehicles becoming airborne on a hump towards the bottom section. Videos of the earlier track exist on YT and the transformation is unbelievable. The track was also famous for motor bike races dating back to WW2 era. The outright lap record is some five seconds faster than V8 Supercars.

The Australian F1 Grand Prix was held on the Mountain in 1938 and three other occasions up to 1958. ...it was famous for the Easter MC meetings pre 1940.

I can't believe you didn't mention the one that started the GMH run...the LJ Torana XU1 and even predecessors the Ford Cortina GT500 / Lotus Cortinas and the Morris Cooper S

And for safety reasons the chicane was introduced. Several good drivers (and motorcyclists) have lost their lives when they became airborne on the hump of the old straight.

It was originally called Main Straight...read up on why the name was changed...

The race has lost all concepts of what it was originally intended for. Have a look at the winners of the event and you will see what I mean. Jags, MORRIS Cooper S, Mazda, Nissan, Vauzhall, Mercedes...the list goes on. The concept was to give the average bloke on the street an indication of the vehicles he could go into a ahowroom and buy. It becme a farce with the V8's which were made up of components from everywhere and probably tractors from Antarctica. I gave up on it ten years ago after following it since inception.

THAN.....You do realise that NASCAR also use road circuits on six or seven fairly famous tracks like Watkins Glenn?

..what goes around comes around. There have been Mustang vs. Camaro and even Mustang vs. Mustang clashes since pre 1970.

Those vehicles were Morris Cooper S and one Austin Cooper S...other than the fact that they use John Cooper's name today's minis are FAKES. The winning driver Rauno Altonen from Finland was a famous World Rallly car driver

Apologies...Bob Holden was his co-driver...

@pokinacha Didn't it get so bad that they regulated to have SOME Aussie componentry on both makes.

We do not have an Oval Office in the Australian Parliament and , like all politicans, the only time they are interested in the race is when an election is on the horizon and they want to be noticed on national TV.

p.s. The Australian Grand Prix was staged on this track four times, the first being 1938.
