I have raised the pronunciation of Mount Kosciuszko previously and have made you awarre that there is a memorial statue of the great Polish explorer and everything else he was located between Soldier Field and the Aquarium in Chicago. The fact is we Aussies pronounce his name incorrectly and typically, have Anglicised it. It is actually pronounced KOZ-YOU-SKO but it's probably too late to change now. The naming came from his fellow contryman Pawel Strzelecki who named the Mountain for his famed countryman after exploring that region. Strzelecki also explored much of inland Australia and the famous Strzelecki Track is named after him. There is also a dedication to him in Newcastle.

  2. We Aussies are certainly inconsistent in our pronunciations of places like my home town, the Gong. We have two other towns not that far away in Wollombi and Wolli Creek and they are definitely pronounced as they read.
