@tgmaps The French were simply manufacturing and supplying to the specifications as laid out by the imbeciles in the Australian Government.

@SomeNewChannel711 No rocket science there...as a person who started as a cadet technologist in the mid 60's I can assure you that Australian steel plants then used to produce more than twice today's volumes. Austlaia used to have a good manufacturing industry...look up the heavy industry production back then.

@Rhythmattica The proliferation of insanely paid CEO's of companies has driven much of this. To them the labour costs contribute to a high proportion of their overall costings so in order to keep the shareholder's dividends up there is really only one way to keep costs down... Soon we will have nothing but CEO's and the pupeteers who pull the strings of Government.....

@daniellarson3068 Exactly what do you mean...."you don't even need to enrich it" ? Australia used to make twice the volume of steel it does today and used to export to Asia until they built up their production capacity and made their own using a lot of our Iron Ore and coal.

@katymcdonald5481 Australia's primary steel producer has noone but itself to blame after it was sold off by the parent company without the mining interests that had been part of the overall structure for as long as the steel plant operated

@danieledwards1081 I was not awar that the Whyalla steelmaking plant had closed down...thanks for the update. Any issues associated with steelmaking at Port Kembla are aligned to Bluescope's decision to manufacture niche steels.

Iron (in the form of what are called Pigs) is what a wartime Prime Minister famously shipped to an enemy.. it is solid. metallic, near pure Iron......today we export Iron Ores...oxides of Iron.
