"Cool exaggerated designs"...that means they were rust buckets with concealed panels that trapped moisture...great for the manufacturers of anti rust products. Those inserts in the back window were the motoring version of venetian blinds that lots of today's grandmas spent half of their lives trying to keep clean in their lounge rooms at home.

Louvers / louvres were the moulded black plastic after market units that were fixed on the outside to make owners think they immediately had a Ferrari GTO. The internal fixtures were and still are available and are called Venetian blinds...just like grandma used to have in the lounge room.

@TheMetal750 How quickly people forget that for decades before Australia has a car industry everything on our roads was imported...it's getting thet way again, much like New Zealand.

You need to understand Australia's surfie / surfing culture before associating the panel van with anything else.

That is a really politically correct way of saying it was a heap of sh1t and a bucket of bolts.

There used to be two types of shading / sun protection in those times. Internally the option was a Venetian blind which apparently is still available (I did a search). Also very popular was the external screwed down plastic louvers which every rev head had to have to convince themselves they would race at Bathurst next year. In today's world they are a fan like shade screen

There has been a huge focus on the Foulcans in the Bathurst race and people forget that the first three 500 races there were won by Cortinas...the GT and GT500. Products of the Firth / Jane operation and based on that remarkable Lotus Cortina produced by the Poms.

Ford perhaps but Zeta Sports and Goggomobil Dart aficionados might have something to say about that. Aussie greatness.

Look up the history of Holden prior to amalgamation with GM. Holden existed from 1850's but they were basically an assembly operation (from 30's) before the first Holden was built in Vic.....even though it was designed in USA. Ford Geelong was also an asssembly operation until the Foulcan came along.
