  3. Mate, there has been only a handful of MLB games this season and already there has been several batters hit in the head by allegedly misgripped balls. We have all seen heaps of brushbacks in the past. What happens in cricket is basically the same...sending a message to the batter that wants more territory than he should have. In cricket the umpires WILL penalise the bowler who bowls high or tries too much chin music per the Laws of Cricket. Baseball umpires have the right to eject the pitcher AND manager if a pitch is thrown through the batter's box.

  5. Re the dimensions of cricket and baseball balls. Both are made to Standards and manufacturer's specifications. Yes, a baseball is lighter..by a whole five grams on average !! WRT the circumference, the LARGEST tolerance for a cricket ball is slightly smaller than the baseball. It all amounts to Jack because both blls act totally differently especially given the object in bowling is to bounce the ball off the wicket. Baseballs also have a larger percentage of the overall surface area occupied with stitches, all 108 of them, which translates to more coefficient of friction being enacted. The specs quoted are not for the cricket ball used in ladies cricket which is slightly smaller than traditional dimensions.

  7. I don't recall that hardness tests have been performed on them but given the cricket ball might be slightly heavier the resulting bruises are not that different. Remember the cricket ball is replaced during a game and softens as it wears. At the elite level baseballs are replaced several times in a game...average is nine balls.

  8. But the tactic was to bowl AT THE BODY, particularly near the heart. It required bowlers who could bowl at a pace that could see the ball rise that much. Without Harold Larwood and Bill Voce it would not have happened.
