  1. The term plumber is derived from the Latin word for the chemical element Lead...Plumbum. Lead was used by the Romans for their water delivery pipes.

  2. Aussie slang has become Americanised in recent decades and especially since we started getting so many US tv shows. I note the explanation for "cheers" here. That word was not used in the way that it now is before the tv show of the same name appeared here. The English equivalent "bottoms up" was commonly used.
