  1.  @bobgatewood5277  You are saying that you can make CaCO3 from wood ashes? I'd suggest trying getting some real Limestone and burning it off in a fire. You might then be more closely following the actual process in steelmaking by the BOF process where burnt lime is used to produce a cleaning flux in the melt.
