@douginorlando6260 and equally, one would argue that the Cathedral that we knew and was was burnt out was nothing like the one that originally stood on the same grounds from mid 1100's.

Most definitely ONE OF the most impressive...there are so many. Let's not forget the ongoing restorations of the likes of the Colosseum. the Parthenon, Petra complex, etc.

@synkaan2167 without actually seeing them how do we know the Lead that encases the surrounds of the stained glass has not been affected. Lead has a melting point of just over 300 Deg Celsius. It also oxidises over time and in an acid / smoky environment will form Lead compounds on the surface.

The translation "from COAL to art" is probably too literal...the reference is to the charcoal of the burnt out timbers that have been renewed.

Might that "Daily Telegraph" be a Murdoch owned paper ?

@mariokajin What is rarely mentioned about this Cathedral is that it is a National Monument of France and hence also received Government funding. I believe the manager of the overall restorations reported directly to a government Minister. Also stained glass is / was surrounded by the metal Lead. LED is a term that applies to Light Emitting Diodes.

First and foremost is the ffact that ND is a place of worship...everything else is peripheral. Also it is actuallly the resting place of past Kings and Queens so in a sense it is a museum. Very difficult to have balance. The nearby Saint Chapelle is also a very worthwhile Cathedral to visit

The people of NZ, and Christchurch specifically, can identify with the loss at ND after the destruction by earthquake of the lovely Christ Church cathedral in 2010.

@amysill3815 Do you really think the good Lord gives a toss about what is there to sit on?

We visited York Minster over a decade ago and were pleased to find the school of apprentice stonemasons set up outside. So great to see so many youngsters learning the skills that are centuries old.
