If a supply of raw materials is more expensive to sort for authenticity than to cosmetically reprocess and there is no downside to counterfeiting, the bad actor has no incentive to ensure quality. The same mindset that cuts baby formula with poison sure as hell isn’t going to care if you get a bad Atari sound chip.
