@skwalka6372 global warming is real, but it’s not a Venus scenario by any stretch of the imagination. CO2 levels have been far in excess of projected 2100 levels in the past and life was just fine. The issue is with sustaining 8B people in those conditions, not survival of life itself.

The part that doesn’t get mentioned very often is how much of a pain in the ass it is to send objects into orbits or intercept trajectories closer to the sun than earth. Think about how easy it is to throw something out from a carousel versus in, relative to the ground frame of reference.

It is in a lot of places, but the US or its western allies never did, so the accomplishment is downplayed in the history of space flight.

@yagoa that has nothing to do with why it isn’t well known. The V-2 was a Nazi terror weapon and we all know about it. The truth is it was a scientific accomplishment the west never achieved, so it’s not mentioned very much in western space flight history. This can be understood WHILE acknowledging that the Soviet Union was an abusive, genocidal authoritarian state.

@skwalka6372 TF are you talking about? XD

@skwalka6372 I’m objectively correct. CO2 levels in excess of 600-800ppm were common until about 34M years ago. Levels dropping below 600ppm are thought to have triggered Antarctic glaciation. NONE of this is the same as saying we should be pumping more CO2 into the atmosphere, because that is already altering the climate and at the brink of triggering mass extinction. But it’s also a far cry from a runaway greenhouse effect turning Earth into Venus. Get some damn perspective in your life.
