When I see things like this happen, when humans establish community and cooperation despite the most draconian conditions and chaos, it reminds me that our nature is buried deep beneath the veneer of culture we think identifies us. 99% of human history is lost to us. But that time is what made us what we are. Not the strongest. Not the fastest. Not the most resilient as individuals. But the best at cooperating with each other and persisting as a group to overcome what would be impossible alone.
