Putin can't squirm out of this too easily, if people were having doubts before, their alarm bells are ringing now, at least two competing factions have to combine. Putin's friend in the military is not going to start a coup, the Oligarchs will, they are out of pocket and getting less each month the war continues, the FSB is loyal to a degree, but that degree "might" be slipping downward. The Home Guard Units are paid by the state but if anything makes their lives better I think they will follow it!?!

@zeriel9148 Russia is advancing backwards on day 400 and odd of a 3 day war, it's economy is in tatters, it's just had a coup attempt from the most capable Russian military in Ukraine, Putin is weak and the Russian army is being purged, gloss it any way you like comrade, the invasion was stupid, Russia have been majorly inept in the war, and it can't see a way out except by an utter defeat at present, Ukraine will liberate its territory, it may take a while and it will adjust its plans to suit it's needs, but the majority of the West is in it for the long haul, Putin on the other hand is most probably is not going to remain to see the outcome of the war if events get any worse in Russia!?!

There is a third option, escalation as it depends where the nuclear strike is aimed and it's possible surrounding contamination. I wouldn't trust China's role to be any different, it will just regurgitate its "we want to promote peace" mantra and continue to buy cheap energy from Russia. Using nuclear does not guarantee de-escalation, if I was leading the West I would take it that only one option remained as Putin has ignored all the previous sensible options, and to ignore his escalating actions would cause further problems with all the rogue states in the future, and particularly Russia, a line has to be drawn in the sand or the Autocrats will win without a shoot being fired!?!

@7ebr830 The Rouble is the best internationally traded currency, but only in Russia, there is a reason for that. U.S. number 1 economy, Russia is out of the top 20, it has less trade than Texas. Sorry, but there isn't a comparison, had it chosen to develop it's economy and global trade instead of invading it's neighbours it might have made itself a success story instead of a pariah!?!

@DraganMedakovicPhotography They have also spent more propping up all the Russian economy, which has flat lined, with only the energy market remaining which is relying on two to three main countries further away instead of a nearby continent (Which took 85% of its market) so the economic outlook must be bleak, which ever way you spin it!

@ZooDinghy Crimea is the prize so it seems strange to cripple it, the Kerch bridge is not going to survive the next attack should Ukraine target it, Russia must realise a Ukrainian attack in Spring to the South is a credible threat, because Russia's winter offensive is only going to take Bakhmut, if they are lucky!?!

Russia was silly in blowing the bridges, they should have let Ukraine lose soldiers trying to cross it. Ukraine will now just target their logistics and keep the defence pinned down from across the river and redirect its troops to the Melitopol sort of area!?!

Europe is not threatened by the Russian Army marching through Europe, it would be destroyed in Poland in short order, Russia's Army has been exposed. The Chinese play the Russian card but it does not have much significance, it is more likely that China might view Russia as a target rather than the West, it can secure precious resources if it was willing to pay the price, whereas taking over Tawain is only ideological, there is not much gain for the pain!?!

@javierfrancia1938 Ukraine's economy has taken a back seat because of Russia's illegal and barbaric invasion and all its efforts are being focused on driving Russia out, which, at great cost, it is doing. Russia's economy cannot afford to sustain this war further than the middle of 2023, it is under extreme stress at present and full sanctions will not be applied until Spring of 2023. The West will support Ukraine's defense at least until 2024, and most of the West beyond that if required, but I expect Russia to be defeated in Ukraine in Autumn of 2023. You underestimate Zelenskyy's (He will not leave Ukraine, he didn't in its darkest days), Ukraine's and the West's resolve!?!

Ukraine will have superior armour by then so Russia won't have an advantage, Russia did not have enough equipment for 300,000, let alone a further 500,000 more, that's more like propaganda, they have a majority in manpower but most of the remaining Russians will not want to go to Ukraine to die, and the remaining prisoners in Russia (Who never previously volunteered) have heard they are just cannon fodder!?!

@micaiahm1 The West as a majority support Ukraine in the war, they are being invaded barbarically just for being Russia's neighbours, most of the equipment supplied is older systems which the West has been maintaining at a cost anyway, training and supplying Ukraine with this equipment helps to save lives but it is war, there will be casualties. Russia is carrying out genocide in Ukraine and if they remain there will be no peace, and Ukrainian people's lives will be forfeit to Russia at the slightest whim of any Russian, previously Russia has commited acts of genocide on Ukraine when it was part of the Soviet Union. The cost of the war to the Wider West is 1% of GDP on average, if Russia were to take over Ukraine it would not stop there, they have already indicated that it will go further in Europe, as these countries are in NATO that might involve the Wider West going into a hot war, I think it's better to supply the equipment for Ukraine to achieve victory and liberate its sovereign territory, comrade!?!

The Russians have been barbaric invaders which has concentrated Ukrainian efforts. It's not that "Ukraine simply doesn't want to give it up" it's just that their Russian neighbours atrocities make it a priority to evict or eradicate them before they carry out more mass killings of its population. @Kingzombiemyanmar Crimea is part of Sovereign Ukraine, the referendums Russia held are internationally illegal, as is all the other regions partially held by Russia in Ukraine. Obviously Russia is not listening so Ukraine is trying to remove them with lethal force, along with the wider West who are supplying defensive equipment to help aid Ukraine in their task!?!

Ukraine has a bigger defence in the cities behind Bakhmut, so Russia will take a year to invade it, but Russia will conk out long before then, they need the long range missiles soon to attack Russian logistics in the short term!?!

Russia flooding their own positions which was unlikely to be attacked (Over Water) is counter productive, Ukraine will shortly have longer range missiles so the Himars range will be redundant, and Russia's Southern logistics will take a right battering, because they will be the target!?!

Human rights abuses are nothing to him, it's just the dollar, he has a workhouse in China after all, and don't acknowledge Russia's barbaric abuses, he should keep his mind on buying Twitter (a purchase he made when he was smoking something no doubt!). He assumes that keeping Russia will honour the "result" (Obtained at gun point again!) when the lying cheating regime will use it to take over Ukraine at a later date, and Putin has already said he won't stop there! Elon's luck is running out, China is going to annex his factory there by a referendum and it will be 99% for!?!

@libertasetpatrie It is unfortunate that a family has suffered but the bridge is a military target to Ukraine for obvious reasons, but it's Putin's fault for his barbaric and illegal invasions and illegally annexing the territory of Ukraine, that is where the blame lies, and Russia deliberately targets civilians including children as military assets in Ukraine which "is" a war crime!?!

@alexs7916 The two European countries who have nuclear weapons can destroy Russia with one twentieth of their individual stockpiles if Russia attacked Europe, that's without the European based US missiles, there is no good ending in nuclear, the Russians will not retain Crimea, because they won't even have a Russia!?!

@direwolf409 Defence expenditure in Ukraine for the wider West is on average less than 1% of GDP (A higher % is paid by smaller countries), the majority in the US and Europe support Ukraine's cause against the barbaric Russians. Most of the US taxes and revenues are therefore available for use in the US (99%) less overseas dependencies and missions and the like, this war is different to other wars as Ukrainians are actually fighting for their own freedom and we are supplying mostly surplus equipment, hopefully Ukraine will prevail and Russia's ambitions will cease, if however Russia gets some sort of success out of Ukraine they will continue in a forever war against the US and Europe, cobbling unholy alliances with the worst dictators, this will not be good for World peace!?!
