Biden if re-elected would only have one term which is four years it's hard to see a big change in energy unless there is a war and if that happens everything else will go out of the window anyway, so most probably no change in the short term (5 years), long term the US needs to switch to renewables, like everybody else as carbon is a finite resource for economic extraction, it should last for 50 years more though on current reserves!?!

@carlthor91 Investors primarily care about their returns and carbon in the majority has high returns, the banks job is to look after people's money not sort out the environment of which they have no clue, because they are Bankers. In the UK we have the most vociferous uninformed anti energy brigade and yet our CO2 pollution is less than 1%, China's is 29% (.....and rising as their reserve supply will be coal fired, not nuclear) and the US 20%, and our banks close people's accounts for their "views" both are overstepping the mark and should be bought sharply back in line as "Joe Bloggs" is getting rather annoyed!?!

@Andrei-gg7xn Yes, proven reserves currently are at 50 to 60 years (Including Venezuela and other possibly unfriendly nations), more oil may be discovered during this time but would it be economically extractable is the problem. Europe is on course for being majorly energy renewable by 2035, although certain problems remain like large scale economic energy storage and retro fitting older houses with ground source or air source heat pumps for heating, and costs for upgrading the network grid which may not be upgraded until "after" the renewables are installed and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles at all homes, but at the end at least we will have energy independence for the first time in a very long time. LK99 is still an uproven concept awaiting "the magic piece of paper".

@ScottAllis I don't think Peter is advocating for unlicensed and unregulated fracking, he was just indicating that fracking has been part of the extraction process since the start of the oil revolution, it is not "new"!?!

What good reason is there to stop leeches? Medicinal leeches are still used in the UK in certain trauma cases, however we have banned fracking, too much seismic activity above the permitted thresholds on pilot bore holes!?!

@calc1657 China will not be dependent on Russian energy like Mainland Europe was in any case, I doubt that the US liaises with China on much these days, especially energy reserves!?!
