Japan has recently (2023) made further diplomatic moves with South Korea (Previously they have not been on friendly terms apparently) to move forward as allies as they are part of the "Wider West" although their relationship has stumbled a few times in the past. Japan has a agreement with the UK to station its military in each other's country including naval vessels (Obviously along with US bases in Japan) and it has good economic and military ties with Australia, so it plays a full role as part of the "Wider West" not just the US and Japan bit, although the US is its biggest Ally!?!

Not really, Russia and Japan (along with the oil majors) had an agreement to develop oil fields on the Sakhalin island(s) prior to the war and Japan had to reapply to buy their stake in late 2022, they support Ukraine with non lethal aid and have reduced their consumption of Russian oil, the war is just Putin's folly!?!
