The UK has a project in Morocco to supply 4 number 3,800 km cables with a combined output of 3.6 GW from the Sahara desert to a sub Station in Devon where it will generate power for 7 million homes, the power generated is by Wind, solar and a extensive battery back up to ensure 20 hours / 7 day supply enough to power 6% of the UK. The UK also has 8 interconnectors to Mainland European Countries to import/ Export at peak demands, with a further 7 in the pipeline, it will be at 16 GW by 2030. Also the North Sea contains the best conditions for Wind Farms which is why the UK has 11 of the top 20 offshore wind farms (Including the World's largest) and Mainland Europe has the other six with China getting the 18Th,19Th and 20Th spot. The UK is set to be able to generate 90% of its electricity by Renewables in 2030 (Note the National Grid can switch power to any part of the UK but it does require upgrades to take full advantage of wind power at peak times as it exceeds the total load of the grid and some of the Wind Farms are then set to idle)!?!
