China has backed itself into a corner with COVID, the solution is already available (Initially carrying on with testing and lockdowns, but augmented with a working vaccine programme so there is a way out at the end), it is just not being used. In the West the pandemic spread easier in the winter time, so as China is finding out, it will get worse until the Spring as they let the genie out of the bottle somewhat by allowing it to transmit to a certain extent (It wasn't quite zero recently and this means that more elderly and vulnerable get hospitalised or die) without vaccinating the population. The C.C.P. is unlikely to change course because of a number of suicides or accidental deaths, or localised protests (Which they will clamp down hard on by locking the area down further) so it's grin and bear it time, unfortunately for a number of years!?!
