Couldn't you tie a ribbon around the muzzle leaving the rest of the bed free to groom? I don't think a two hour drive once a month is too bad to get a good groom. And if he kept coming to you he would probably calm down. Maybe those other groomers are just scaredy cats. Unless you cut out the bad parts I thought he was good.
