When very extreme religious ideology of your "neighbor" causes them to plot and wish for wiping out all of your people, and it is and has been their number one goal in life, then nobody should be surprised when itt is necessary to take harsh actions against them to protect your people. Period, its not very complicated. Israel didn't want or force the islamic extremists to be their enemy. The islamic extremists forced it upon them. They have no choice in the matter.
